Several Tournaments have been held within Verdania and not all of them held at the Relgard Arena. Here you'll find information concerning the various Tournaments that have occured in the long line of Verdania's history.The Tournaments of Lord Aelvius is a tradition within the castle home of the Aelvius Family, found over fifty miles to the northwest of Tantallon, for several decades. These tournaments usually vary in style and are very infrequent occurring sporadically and entirely on the whim of the ruling male of the Aelvius Family. Listed below is information on various tournaments held over the years as well as fight summaries and results.

Grand Tournament (716 AD)

The Grand Tournament is a two week long event with three fields - Archery, Dueling and Conjuration Combat - in which eight competitors compete in picked fields (one competitor can pick either one or two fields to compete in) for various prizes.

Archery Field - In this event competitors are paired off to fire at three circular targets using non-magical longbows and arrows. The best overall score of firing at all three targets determines the winner and who advances into the next round. This field within the Grand Tournament has only three rounds - Opening (4 matches), Semi-Final (2 matches), and Final (1 match) - and winners are determined by their hits and overall skill with the longbow.

Dueling Field - In this event competitors face off in a duel, unable to use magic or magically endowed weapons and armor, in a one hour long bout. The goal is to either subdue or force your opponent into a surrender as killing your opponent is grounds for immediate disqualification. If no winner is declared before the one hour time limit then a winner is declared by Lord Aelvius and the judges. 

Conjuration Combat Field - In this event competitors face off by summoning and conjuring up the creatures that shall fight for them. The battle ends till one of the monsters is killed by the other. None of the Mages can interfere or attack each other, only being able to give orders out to the creatures they are commanding.

Opening Round Matches

Summary: Jale and Loric got off to a good start as Jale took the lead with an arrow hitting the Inner ring and Loric's shot hitting within the Outer Ring. The second firing resulted in Jale maintaining his current spot with a hit in the Inner Ring but Loric moving up as he hit the mark right on the bull's-eye much to the crowd's delight. The third round finalized Loric's victory as both archers hit right alongside the bull's-eye.

Result: Loric was the victor and moved on to the Semi-Final Round.

Summary: The battle got off to an odd start as both competitors missed the target in the opening firing. Within the second round Rhemult, a known keen eye, totally missed his target while Sleeper scored a bull's-eye yet seemed rather upset at his own luck. The third firing round finished off this odd battle as Rhemult missed his target for a third time in a row and Sleeper managed a hit within the Inner ring of the target. This odd match is rumored to have been a fix as several men, reputed members of the Thieves Guild in Port Arennon, bet well over one hundred thousand in silver for Sleeper to win.

Result: Sleeper was the victor and moved onto the Semi-Final Round.

Summary: This was truly a bout of the experts as both men were rumored to possess high archery prowess. Kotaro fired first and scored a hit along the Outer Ring, with Peralay firing soon after and hitting right alongside Kotaro's arrow but within the Inner Ring. The second round would see Kotaro getting closer with a shot hitting the bull's-eye yet his thunder was stolen as Peralay managed an impressive feat with his firing as his arrow hit, and went cleanly thru, the bull's-eye. This amazing shot sent the entire crowd to it's feet in a loud cheerful ovation. Kotaro fired once more in the third round, determined to overcome Peralay, yet managed only a shot within the Inner Ring. Peralay sealed his victory with an arrow hit right alongside the bull's-eye.

Result: Senchant Peralay was the victor and moved onto the Semi-Final Round.

Summary: Due to a failure to show up, Aren Jetfeather was declared defeated via forfeit and Eric Samson won via default.

Result: Eric Samson was the victor and moved onto the Semi-Final Round.

Semi-Final Round Matches

Summary: The first match of the Semi-Final round got off to good start with Loric hitting the Inner Ring and Sleeper managing to miss the target. However the second round had a twist as both competitors missed their targets entirely. In the third round Sleeper managed to clutch out a narrow victory from Loric as Loric missed the target and Sleeper hit right near the bull's-eye.

Result: Sleeper was the victor and moved onto the Final Round. 

Summary: Paladin and SwordMage faced off in this exciting match as in the opening round both men hit within the Inner Ring with Eric having a narrow advantage over Peralay. In the second round Peralay managed, for the second time, an amazing bull's-eye that went clean thru the target and exited out the other end with Eric following up that impressive feat with a shot to the Inner Ring. The third round only sealed Peralay's victory as the elf's shot hit the bull's eye and Eric's last shot slammed right into the Inner Ring.

Result: Peralay was the victor and moved onto the Final Round.

Final Round Match

Summary: In this last match of the Archery Field the stakes were risen as a fourth target was brought out for the competitors. The competition began as Sleeper fired and hit the Inner Ring with Peralay's following shot impacting right alongside the bull's-eye. The two then fired at the second target where Sleeper hit the Outer Ring and Peralay made a shot and hit the bull's-eye. The two men then moved on to the third target where Peralay managed yet another impressive feat following Sleeper's shot to the Inner Ring. Peralay's shot hit the center of the target and caused the entire circular target to collapse in a pile of rubble which greatly excited the crowd. Then they headed to the fourth and final target where Sleeper hit the Inner Ring and Peralay, more giving up the shot than really trying, missed the target.

Result: Senchant Peralay was declared the winner of the Archery Competition.

Bonus Event

Summary: Following the Final Match, Lord Cyrian Aelvius stepped out and offered a chance to the second place winner, Sleeper, to expand his winnings. Standing right near where Lord Aelvius had been sitting was a kobold with an apple perched atop his head. Sleeper was challenged to strike the arrow clean from the kobold's head and, if he managed to, would double his winnings of ten thousand silver coins into twenty thousand silver. Sleeper accepted the challenge and with an exciting shot managed to shoot the apple right off the kobold's head.

Opening Round Matches

Summary: A very well evened match which got off to the two men exchanging unknown words with each other before Eric made the opening move with a sword slash to Tempest's chest which was blocked and then returned the favor by blocking Tempest's countermove of a sword slash at Eric. Following this both men managed to score hits on each other, Eric with a sword slash at Tempest and Tempest managing a powerful punch upon Eric's chest. Tempest then backed off into a defensive with Eric advancing and attacking via a swing to Tempest's lower side. Tempest then advanced upon Eric after more unknown words spoken by him as he struck out towards Eric. Eric dodged the blow and countered with a sword swing towards Tempest's side which connected in a deep cut. During this cut Tempest launched a successful counter-slash which cut into Eric's elbow at where Eric appeared to have trouble moving his arm following that impact to his elbow. The horn then sounded to end the match right as both men were preparing to launch another series of slashes and punches upon each other.

Result: After the one hour time expiration, Eric Samson was declared the winner of the match and advanced to the Semi-Finals.

Summary: The horn sounded with both men in a stalemate, seeming to decide who should attack who and even asking Lord Aelvius who should be given the first move. However this stalemate was broken by Akuji who flew a punch right at Maelstrom. While the punch was blocked Akuji quickly followed it up with a snap kick at Maelstrom's side which connected against Maelstrom's shin. Not giving Maelstrom a second's peace Akuji then advanced with a drawn dagger aimed at Maelstrom which slashed across Maelstrom's wrist. The two men then engaged in an arm lock, seeming to go towards the same move on each other. It was at this point that several in the audience began to notice Maelstrom's skin turning into a greenish tint and Maelstrom then yelled out that he had been drugged. Aelvius ordered the match ended for the matter to be investigated.

Result: Due to the use of a poisoned dagger, Akuji was disqualified and Maelstrom Vortex was declared the winner of the match and advanced to the Semi-Finals.

Summary: Sithard got the battle off to an aggressive beginning as he charged upon Loric with a tower shield and sword as Loric kept attempting to use ranged weaponry against the unknown warrior. Sithard kept aggressively charging on Loric, despite a crossbow bolt shot to the groin in an inhuman display of aggressiveness and pain tolerance. Sithard followed up in close quarters with several kicks to Loric's head as Loric fired off several close range bolts with his repeating crossbow. The horn sounded right as Sithard was preparing another aggressive advance upon Loric.

Result: After the one hour time expiration, Loric DeMuire was declared the winner of the match and advanced to the Semi-Finals.

Summary: The battle got off to a quick start as Vincent charged at Sleeper, only to have Sleeper slip and fall. Vincent held off his initial attack long enough to, in true honor, give Sleeper a chance to get to his feet then the battle proceeded with a flurry of exchanges of staff and sword. Sleeper made things rather difficult for Vincent with the introduction of caltrops upon the Arena floor which greatly impeded Vincent's own mobility about the arena. Both men soon switched to daggers and proceeded to exchange blows in the still evenly matched battle where Vincent managed to switch to his favor with a deep cut into Sleeper's side. Right as Sleeper had Vincent grappled the horn sounded to end the match.

Result: After the one hour time expiration, Vincent Blade was declared the winner of the match and advanced to the Semi-Finals.

Semi-Final Round Matches

Summary: This much anticipated battle got off to a rousing start with both men repealing each other's attacks early on then scoring damage as Maelstrom suffered an arm injury and Eric was knocked off his feet for a short moment, an opportunity Maelstrom did not take advantage of. The battle proceeded forward as both men kept exchanging serious slashes and punches at each other with Maelstrom taking the aggressive stance with a groin hit and an uppercut in close quarters to Eric. Right as Eric was preparing for a furious counter-attack upon Maelstrom the horn sounded to end the match.

Result: After the one hour time expiration, Eric Samson was declared the winner of the match and advanced to the Final Round.

Summary: Loric started the match off with a shot at Vincent from his crossbow, with Vincent hurling a dagger towards the man. Soon Vincent crossed the distance between the two as the two men grappled in a series of exchanged hits with fists and elbows. The close quarters however proved to be rather advantageous for Loric as he fired a crossbow bolt at point blank range into Vincent's gut. In Vincent's retreat from Loric another crossbow bolt managed to strike into Vincent's leg and immediately after this move the horn sounded to signal the end of the match due to time expiration.

Result: After the one hour time expiration, Loric DeMuire was declared the winner of the match and advanced to the Final Round.

Final Round Match

Summary: The final match of the Dueling Competition began as Eric rushed ahead armed with two swords as his weapons and his wings as his shields towards Loric who seemed to immediately suffer from the attacks however used the close range to spit out a cluster of small metal objects out towards Eric's face. Eric followed up that assault with a knee to Loric's gut then backed off as the pain from the face wound was wearing down the warrior. Eric was in the middle of a swing at Loric right as the horn sounded to signal the end of the match due to time expiration.

Result: After the one hour time expiration, Loric DeMuire was declared the winner of the Dueling Competition.

Bonus Event

Summary: Offered a chance to win boots of Elvenkind and cloaks of Elvenkind, both the first (Loric) and second place (Eric) winners of the Dueling Competition agreed to join forces to fight two of Lord Aelvius's most powerful warriors, the mystical Helmed Horror and the executioner Xarninin. Right as the match started both warriors paired off, the Helmed Horror moving to face Eric and Xarninin moving to face off against Loric. The Helmed Horror managed to disrupt a spell of Eric's then managed to block Eric's own attack, yet with his own attack blocked as well. Both warriors managed to maintain an even field against each other as Loric was being cornered towards the wall by Xarninin. The Helmed Horror then moved and advanced upon Loric, both working to wear him down as Eric tried a spell against the Helmed Horror which failed against it. The initial part of the battle between Loric and Xarninin had Xarninin advancing upon Loric with his scythe as Loric backed away to get a chance to fire. Managing a successful shot he was surprised to find that Xarninin had protection against missiles and Xarninin slammed Loric into the wall to injure his leg. Eric then advanced at Xarninin, right after the Helmed Horror had moved against Loric and managed to knock the massive warrior back as Loric was knocked to the ground. Loric turned and jabbed a dagger at Xarninin's wrist however this move would prove a fatal mistake as Loric left his back exposed to the Helmed Horror who took this moment to finish off the warrior with a fiery greatsword rammed into the middle of Loric's back. With Loric dead, Eric retreated back as he now faced two on one odds of Xarninin and the Helmed Horror. Using a spell to turn the ground underneath Xarninin's feet to quicksand, Eric managed to avoid a double team and was able to face off against the Helmed Horror alone who attacked at Eric but his own blows were parried. Around this time Xarninin managed to free himself from the quicksand and advanced upon Eric right as the Helmed Horror seemed to back away from Eric. Xarninin then dropped his scythe, grappling a hold of Eric as the Helmed Horror moved several feet away from Eric to the rear. While Eric managed to score a very deep thrust into Xarninin with his sword, it would be only a short moment of glory as the Helmed Horror used Eric's distraction to fire three explosive crossbow bolts into Eric's back. The following explosion from the impact sent Eric crumpling to the ground who was then finished off with a sword thrust by the Helmed Horror into the middle of Eric's back. Xarninin then stood with his foot upon Loric's body, his scythe raised to the hair and releasing a wolfish howl of victory and the Helmed Horror brandishing his greatsword to the sky while he placed his own foot upon Eric's body in a show of triumph. The horn then sounded to signal the end of the match due to the death of Eric and Loric.

Result: The Helmed Horror and Xarninin were declared the winners of the Bonus Event due to the deaths of Loric DeMuire and Eric Samson.

Opening Round Matches

Summary: Pending

Result: Ield Mydell was declared the winner by Lord Aelvius after Nicodemus was defeated in the match.

Summary: Pending

Result: Suraj Trokair was declared the winner by Lord Aelvius after the match was ended 12 hours after it began.

Summary: Because of failure for a competitor to appear, Lord Aelvius made a judgment on the match.

Result: Due to failure to appear, Gorren Vizlilian was disqualified and Tempest was declared the winner and advanced to the Semi-Final Round.

Summary: Because of failure for a competitor to appear, Lord Aelvius made a judgment on the match.

Result: Due to failure to appear, Drata Sphere was disqualified and Maelstrom Vortex was declared the winner and advanced to the Semi-Final Round.

Semi-Final Round Matches

Summary: Pending

Result: Due to extensive Arena damage the match was ended by Lord Aelvius and declared a draw. Both competitors were eliminated from the tournament.

Result: Maelstrom Vortex was declared the winner by Lord Aelvius after Tempest was defeated in the match.

Conjuration Combat
Final Round Match

Summary: With no competitor to face Maelstrom Vortex, Lord Aelvius declared him winner of the match by default.

Result: Maelstrom Vortex was declared the winner of the Conjuration Combat competition.

Archery Championships (717 AD)

The Archery Championships is a week and a half long event with sixteen competitors facing off in a test of their skills with the bow for various prizes.
