Description and Notes
Fleet Data: The Shadowrunner project got it's start in 693 AD as a personal airship for Chief Engineer of the D.I.S. Victory Derek Gideon. The Victory underwent a modification, giving it a specialized hanger bay in which the Shadowrunner itself was slowly constructed and used in several missions by the Victory. Derek Gideon also used it to test an experimental planar portal generator, or what many call the father to the Ethereal Slipstream Drive. In the very first field test in 694 AD, the Shadowrunner was propelled at 50 miles per minute, returning out of the slipstream 10 minutes later and 500 miles away. It had reached a speed of 3,000 miles per hour, and crossed 500 miles in ten minutes. It took the D.I.S. Victory (693 refit) just under 5 hours at maximum speed to reach the Shadowrunner's exit point. Later field runs however had the Shadowrunner only able to attain this speed again however only for 30 seconds, able to make 25 mile hops. This was amazing considering the fastest ship at the time (Pegasus class) would need 14 minutes at maximum speed to reach the same distance. Later tests showed however that the same results could not be produced for any other ship as Damocles Engineers at the time had trouble stabilizing the ethereal fields, altering the tunnel size to accommodate a ship larger than a Shadowrunner, or maintaining a stable tunnel for more than 30 seconds. Also the drive was meant to travel to another plane, however this proved to be a failure despite the fact Derek Gideon had just accidentally stumbled upon Ethereal Slipstream theory. It would take Damocles 24 years before they could make a working ESD model. In the following year, Derek Gideon attempted again, however with only marginal success as he used a standard portal generator, rigged with his Drive (Called the ESD Type SR1X today) and attempted another planar crossing. He managed to get the Shadowrunner there, but had only a ten minute window in which to return back from the plane he traveled to. Second tests proved a failure, but Damocles would later stabilize the devices as the Mistwalker and Miststormer Modules decades later. The Shadowrunner was placed into drydock at Norcon Yards following the decommissioning of the D.I.S. Victory in 696 AD, then later commissioned as a Courier class but sans the experimental drives and upgraded with technology gleamed from the Pegasus class and that was currently under development for the Marauder and Avenger classes. The Shadowrunner is a two deck ship, with an open hull, and designed in the same look as the Defender class without the top deck section found at the rear of the Defender. A few ladders and access crawlways make moving through the ship rather cramped, and it has an adequate cargo hold for the ship's mission profile. The Shadowrunner is normally used for high speed supply and personnel runs, having strong enough shields to withstand a severe pounding and more than enough speed to outrun anything pursuing it. The Shadowrunner is the ship of choice among civilian markets, as people view the Shadowrunner as fast, sleek and dependable. The Shadowrunner however has not enjoyed the same amount of favor in the Damocles Fleet, as many view it to be far too expensive for a ship of it's mission profile. The Shadowrunner never had a chance to shine during the First War, but in the Verax War it served as diversionary ships, as packs of Shadowrunners would draw enemy fire while a larger ship pressed on it's attack. The Shadowrunners are also the one ship with the most variants, as Damocles has made everything from planet-hopping versions to battle versions which preceded the Wasp class Fighter as Damocles's first capable fighter craft.

Current airships, as well as Damocles focusing on shuttle research, has made the Shadowrunner obsolete and no longer useful in the Fleet, however Damocles has yet to decommission it but only 5 Shadowrunners are built a year currently and they are generally assigned as patrol craft around Damocles shipyards or employed by the Navy in search and rescue operations. Cause of the versatility of the Shadowrunner, this class may never be decommissioned.

Navy Variant: Used by the Damocles Navy and the Coast Guard for search & rescue operations, as well as patrolling of various seaports, this version includes a frontal Grappler (+2 SU) and a Personnel Teleporter (+7 SU). It's speed upratings are removed, and the engines downrated by 1% to allow room for these additions. Today 75% of all Shadowrunners currently in service fall under this variant. It takes 2 weeks to refit a standard Shadowrunner with the specifications of this variant.

Emergency Medical Response (EMR) Variant: This version is employed by Damocles Medical to respond to crisis situations in which medical help is required. It includes a Medical Rating of 5, (+25 SU) with an Mark II Emergency Medical Ultimax (+5 SU) and double the Teleporters of the Navy Variant (+14 SU). Cause of the ship's altered profile, it's crew compliment is increased to 204. It's Crew Quarters are increased to 80 Basic (+8) and the Spartan Quarters are increased from 20 to 100 (+5 SU) and a Galley is installed (+2 SU). To make room for this, the Shadowrunner's Shield Grid is removed entirely and it's engines have the Upratings removed (Bringing the SU count to 484). This variant is able to house it's crew of 204, as well as hold 76 passengers and with the presence of a Galley, the EMR Variant is able to remain on assignments away from Port and remain in an area to render needed medical aid. This ship has been used several times, most recently when the plague hit Verdania as it was the EMR Shadowrunner that ferried the cure developed by Doctor Liridin to the needed parts of Verdania. It takes 9 weeks to refit a standard Shadowrunner with the specifications of this variant.

Bomber/Mine Deployment Variant: Used by the Damocles Military after 698, this variant was used to conduct bombing and mining raids on Shadow Knight held territories and hostile lands. This variant has either 5 Bomb Bays or 5 Mine Bays, placed on the Ventral section (Belly/Bombs) or the Aft section (Rear/Mines) of the ship. (+25 SU) and given a compliment of 100 Bombs/Mines (+5 SU). To make room for this addition, the Speed Upratings are removed, and the Shadowrunner's Speed is Downrated by 22% (New Speed is 117/156/187 MPH). Damocles still fields several of this Variant, which sometimes conducts bombing runs on Shadow Knight held land in packs of six. It takes 5 weeks to refit a standard Shadowrunner with the specifications of this variant.

Freighter Variant: Also used by Damocles to move emergency supplies and gear to ships in the field, this version is given the same Teleporter package as found on the Pegasus class (+26 SU) and it's Shield Grid is removed. The remaining room is then focused into the current cargo capacity (Raising it from 4 SU to 30 SU Cargo) giving the Shadowrunner a cargo capacity of 9 Tons. It takes 8 weeks to refit a standard Shadowrunner with the specifications of this variant.

Charon Variant: Used by Damocles as a launch vehicle for the Justice Bioweapon, this variant was declared it's own class. See the Charon class entry for more information. However it is important to note that the Charon is nothing more than a heavily modified Shadowrunner frame.

Combat Variant: This version of the Shadowrunner, commonly employed at the start of the Verax war to combat Verax fighter craft, is armed with the same frontal compliment of Type 2 Pulse Cannons as the Pegasus (+22 SU) and a forward torpedo launcher (+14 SU) as well as a compliment of 30 Torpedoes (+3 SU). To accommodate the weaponry, the Shadowrunner's Cargo Capacity was removed, as well as the Upratings to it's Speed. It's Cartographic Crystal was swapped for a Class 1, and it's backup removed. It's HRG-04 was swapped out for an HRG-02, the Communications Booster removed and it's Emergency Power Supply replaced with a Type A. While this version was slower than the standard, it was able to be an effective counter to Verax fighter craft as Damocles rushed the Albatross and Wasps into production. This variant didn't last long however, as it was far too expensive to be lost in a combat situation and the Verax quickly overcame the Shadowrunner in battle situations. It takes 6 weeks to refit a standard Shadowrunner with the specifications of this variant.
