What is Imperia?
Imperia is a MFFRP Channel, Medieval Free Form Role Play. However the term "FFRP" is a very vague and generic term used in several channels all over. So let me state what we believe "FFRP" means. FFRP, Free Form Role Play is role play without structure, without any background whatsoever. It's a Role Play where you go in and all there is, period, is some Inn in forest and maybe, if you are lucky, a lake. Some people like this cause of the freedom, however that freedom is often abused. There exists no quality standards for characters, no real impact on the environment around you, and the only RP Plots that can be done revolve around interaction such as romances and such. Beyond that, there is nothing. This is good for the casual RPer, or the person seeking a lay instead of a real challenge. However Imperia is neither of those things. Here we have structure. What is structure? Well allow me to compare a generic hypothetical RP Channel (Refered to as Teal Green Dragon Inn) to a structured channel (TwistedBlade).
| Teal Green Dragon Inn VS TwistedBlade Inn (Or Pure FFRP VS Imperia) | ||
| Teal Green Dragon Inn (Pure FFRP) | TwistedBlade Inn (Imperia) | |
| The Inn | An Inn within a forest. There is nothing but forests for thousands of miles. Hell, the entire PLANET is made of one big forest. | An Inn within the slum district of a capital city of a Kingdom, set upon a coast. This city is also a thriving trade port. |
| The Food and Drinks | Anything and Everything. Magic Runes bring all sorts of food you can imagine. No one ever works the bar, and oddly no one ever tries to steal the tillbox cause no one ever pays. | What food and drinks here are limited by the region, as well as the health of trade. If there is a drought, except food prices to sky rocket. If the nation of Kardius is under a trade embargo, except prices for Kardius Wine to skyrocket. |
| The Owner and Staff | No one's ever seen them. Everyone coming in claims to own the Inn. | They have a set group of staff, cleaners, owners and bouncers like any normal establishment. Sometimes staff gets killed, or will fight back in bar room brawls. |
| Killing? | Never Allowed. Teal Green Dragon will kick you with a magical killing blade (A popup with a kick + ban) if you so much as smash a chair. | Smash a chair? Staff excepts you to pay for it. Kill a person? Guards will respond accordingly if the kill was justified or not. A person is never kick/banned for an IC action. IC and OOC never mix. |
| Out of Character Stuff | Teal Green frequently mixes them both. If a new person with a nick of "John" walks in, everyone seems to magically know his name. | OOC is kept to #Imperia and Imperia maintains strict IC/OOC Seperation. |
| Outside the Inn | Forest, Trees..more Forest. Maybe a road, we think a lake. We aren't sure. Our food just magically appears. No supplies ever come in. | A large, bustling trade city. Supplies come and go via shipments either over land, over the sea or through the air. The landscape for..well..the entire planet has also been mapped with cities, nations, islands, deserts, forests, mountains and caves. |
| Nations? Governments? | Trees don't have governments or wars or weapons. You can't hug your children with swordarms! | Several other nations and governments, all wanting to either make peace or war. Politics is a dirty game. |
| Character Restrictions? | None! You want to be Goku talking to Sailor Moon? Drizzt talking about Corona Beers with Tenchi Muyo? Go right ahead! We allow anything and everything, including that 4 mile long dragon that somehow managed to squeeze into the Inn. Also the Inn has a million dark corners. | Common Sense. We do not allow copyrighted or cliche material. Want a dark corner? Sorry we don't have any. Want to be Drizzt? Go away. Corona Beers? We don't have any. 4 mile long dragons? They don't exist. Did I state we don't have any dark corners? |
| Plots | Well M'lady Amberbiredecognac got pregnant last week with Sir Tenchi Lancelot's child. They had the child yesterday and now M'lady Amberbiredecognac is having the Demon Lord of the Abyssal Plane 1-1's children. We expect them to be born..oh wait..they were born five minutes ago. Besides that we sit around, drink, yawn and keep to our own separate dark corners. | Ranging from city attacks, wars, hijackings of trade caravans, thefts, robberies, monster rampages. The characters shape the world. If your character stands by and yawns while another character gets killed, the guards may suspect you of having something to do with this. |
| Law & Order? | No Government, No Guards. You can kill all the patrons, or hump that cat lady in the middle of the bar and no one cares or even notices. | Guards patrol the city and enforce the laws of the Axius Kingdom. |
| Planet? | We are not sure what planet this is. Could be Earth as everyone here seems to know about Earth and recently the Demon Lord of the Abyssal Plane 1-1's kid was running around talking about the latest Beyonce song. We have one moon, which is always full and always dark given the werewolves and vampires that are always sitting around smoking Marlboros. | This is not Earth. Earth was destroyed. This is Imperia. Not Earth. There was an Earth, but it got toasted two decades ago. We have two moons, not one. |
Now the above example should state the differences completely of regular FFRP (Teal Green Dragon Inn) VS Imperia (TwistedBlade Inn) in styles and background. However Imperia isn't for everyone.
Obviously, we can't cover everything Imperia is in a few paragraphs - that's covered in the entirety of the website. This is merely an introduction to help you get started; to show you the basics but not to overwhelm you with too much information. Basically, Imperia is a roleplaying channel with a unique system and setting. The quality of play also tends much better than most roleplaying channels you may have heard of, and we stand up to that. Although I'm sure you've been thoroughly scared by all the rules and regulations by now, most of the material is just roleplaying common sense.
That aside, we're really all about community, quality roleplaying, and having fun. We take pride in saying that we are Imperians. Although it may take a while for new players to adjust, we welcome them with open arms and continue to help them once they finish learning the ropes.
You shall find very few pure examples of good and evil; most characters fall into that spectrum of gray. You will never find plots with predetermined winners or losers. And you will never, ever find people who would say "i keeled UR darth vader with my supasaiyan jinja kick! i r0x0Rs!" Although we may not attract as many people as more popular roleplaying channels, that is the price we pay for offering quality gaming and a realistic setting.
Finally, we are about having fun. After all, what is a hobby or any task without its purpose, its rewards greater than any monetary sum? Why else would writers write, artists draw, or bands play? They enjoy what they do and they like the personal satisfaction brought on by the fruits of their labors. The same is true for roleplayers, especially since there is little to no chance of getting reimbursed for the time put into their hobby. We try not to drag the gaming down with excessive regulation, nor do we restrict topics that most other channels wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
