How do you play?
Imperia is played mainly on the IRC (Internet Relay Chat) medium however we are also expanding to allow for play on the PBP (Play by Post/Message Board) medium as well. While we have a Forum, it currently acts as mostly a supplement to the Chat-based Role Play. (However if you are interested in helping with the development of Imperia on a PBP Medium, please contact Imperia Administration).
IRC is basically Chat Room/Real Time Chat. We have a Java Client provided for people who do not have an IRC Client, but for IRC Clients we personally recommend mIRC. If you use the Java Client, it will connect you automatically and send you directly to an Imperia Channel.
Using the Imperia Java Client
When you click on the Java Client page and select a channel (Like #Imperia), a new browser window will pop up. Shortly, some Java will also load as well as this window seen in the picture below

This is a standard thing with Java Applets and will not danger your computer in anyway. Simply click on Yes. The Java Client will load, and a new window will appear.

At this point, having some prior experience in working an IRC Program would help, but we will assume you don't and advise you properly. The Public Window lists channels you are joined into. If more than one channel box is shown, then the darker one is currently the channel you are viewing. Private pertains to the Status and all Private Message Windows. Status is mostly ignored, as it shows server information. Any box highlighted in red has new information in it since you last looked at it. Any box in a light blue color means you are not currently looking at that window.
The clients are all configured to sign you on under the nicks ImperiaJava or ImperiaChat. To change your nick, simply type in the name in the box in the lower right hand corner and press enter.
To join a new channel, you type in /join #channel name and then press enter in the Text Entry Field beneath the Channel Window and above the Public/Private Boxes.

All text you type into the entry field will show up in a channel or private message window after you have pressed enter. If you are especially new to this, we ask you get down the basics of IRC before submitting a character.
To Private Message someone, you type in /query nick and then press enter and a query window will open up under the Private section. Sometimes a query window will also open when a person messages you.
When using Chat, we ask that you respect the rules of Imperia and behave in a civil and mature manner. Anyone breaking this will be hit by a kick and removed from the channel. Rules will be explained later.
Connecting to Imperia using mIRC
Assuming you have mIRC installed, you simply start up the program and enter in /server irc.darkmyst.org in the main field as shown below and then press enter.

The program will connect you to the server. (You may also need to pick a Nickname, using the /nick command as shown above. For example, if you wanted to change your nick to Tom you would type in /nick Tom and then press Enter.) From this point, you join #Imperia by typing /join #Imperia as shown below.

Showing more mIRC Commands is a much longer process, so we would recommend you head straight to #RPSchool and direct all of your questions there.
The Imperia Forum
As we stated earlier, we have a Forum. One day we hope to make it into PBP Gaming as well as the supplement to the chat-based Role Play. To reach the Forum, you load the URL http://forum.ImperiaRP.org into your browser or you simply use the link shown in the sidebar in the World of Imperia section of the site. When the Forum loads up, you should see only three sections of the Forum open. This is all a Guest, or Unregistered Person, has access to see.

This is most certainly not all the Imperia Forum has. To see more, you will need to register for an account using the link found in the upper right hand corner.

Follow the information shown on the links to sign up. An Authorization Email will be sent to the Email you specify, at which you are to follow the instructions in the letter to respond back and activate your account. After that you simply login using your Username and Password. Now before signing up, you need to be aware of a few rules, guidelines and issues regarding the Forum
