Channels
Ok, let me just say this one more time.
Do not place your character in a channel only cause there are people playing there. Place your character in the channel he/she would be in. If she prefers the quiet, safe life of Relgard, then Arennonmist, NOT TwistedBlade Inn. Having your character go to the dangerous city not only is signing your character's life away but is a breaking of IC/OOC Seperation.
Now I can start explaining the channels.
Picking the channel that is right for you
First ask yourself what kind of player are you?
#Arennonmist_Inn - Go here if you are a social player, want something casual without having to keep track of constant changes, want to play it safe, or play a very low powered character. Also AMI Has laws against magic use.
#TwistedBlade_Inn - High power, plenty of adventure, however you have to keep track of alot. Best for those who want action, adventure, danger and to get into massive Plots.
#Relgard_Arena - An option for people at Arennon Mist. A Sparring Arena. Non-Lethal combat (usually).
Imperia Channels
At the time of writing this, Imperia has 3 OOC Channels and 3 IC Channels. By channels I mean official, registered with Chanserv, channels. Sometimes role play moves into side-channels (Such as #Damocles_Castle , #TBI_Upstairs or #Tantallon) however we do not register them nor should our number of registered channels be used to gauge how "Big" the group is. If we registered every single channel we ever used for RP, we would need around a thousand channels. Over registering channels is a waste of IRC Network resources, so the side channels are open and closed as needed and as Plot events dictate. Not all Plots occur in the IC Channels, sometimes moving off to side channels, however the main channels do act as jumping/starter points. First I'll list the OOC/Out of Character Channels.
#Imperia - The main OOC Channel and Hub of Imperia. Consider this place like a "front desk". We ask everyone to be respectful while in here, and this channel is designed to field any and all questions however "Audience" people are not welcome, as we only want active players.
#RPSchool - This channel is our learning center for Role Play, as well as for very new people. Sometimes we even run lessons here on advanced material of Imperia. The School is ran by Lyncor.
#Grinding_Stone - The dispute/mediation channel. We ask all fusses, points, gripes and such be kept out of #Imperia and put either in message or in GS (Grinding Stone). This channel is not always attended to, as just hanging out there is really cruising for a battle.
Now onto the IC/In Character Channels.
#TwistedBlade_Inn - This In Character channel is best for medium-skilled players and those looking for excitement. The average "power-level" of this channel ranges from medium to high. Located within the south side of Tantallon in the Southern District, the TBI has a legendary aura about it unlike any other Inn in the city. Famous heroes, villains, and other awe-inspiring creatures have visited the Inn, including the Primals, Imperia's gods. The mood of this channel is typical to that of any Inn within a town that is prosperous, but is plagued with caution, paranoia, and fear. Travelers and unwelcome outsiders have to keep on their toes at all times, lest they die in the foreign city.
#ArennonMist_Inn - This second IC channel is ideal for beginner players, medium to low-level characters, and those looking for "tamer" roleplaying. The Arennon Mist Inn is named after the thick fog that rolls in from the ocean each morning. This building is the oldest and most respected Inn within Relgard, a town known for its peacefulness, even during the most chaotic periods of war and strife. Port Arennon's security is due not only to its geography, but to its code of law, which prohibits portals and practicing magic without a license. Although there are no world-shattering plots, that is the price paid for the safety AMI offers.
#Relgard_Arena - This channel is actually underneath #Arennonmist_Inn , being an official side channel of it and is used for all of the Tournaments on Mennald Island.
Ok, say I want to start in Arennonmist Inn. How/Why would my character be there?
Well the character is either there on the way to Tantallon (#TwistedBlade_Inn) or has decided to come to Relgard & Mennald for several reasons. But before we cover why, let's cover how the character got there.
|
|
Mennald Island (The red dot) is 40 miles south of Tantallon (The blue dot) and exists within the bay leading out towards the Sea of Eradina. Ships coming in from the Sea (The blue/purple arrow) sail for a day, moving past Damocles held Spearon Archipelago, and come to Mennald Island which is a stopping point and where ships frequently supply up before making the last approach to Tantallon or sometimes wait here if Tantallon is in danger or the port in Tantallon is full. Cause Mennald Island is an island, the only way to get there is to sail. So logically your character would be sailing in from the Sea of Eradina, bound from either Dantania, Northern Damocles, Southern/Western Axius or other lands and nations of Verdania. |
Normally ships stop at Port Arennon, but Relgard is attracting people cause it's a new quiet town, and it's where the Relgard Arena is located. The Arena is the hosting place for all Tournaments and Events, the "Superdome" of Verdania. While the town of Relgard is small (2,000-4,000 people) it is attracting several tourists, travelers, or people wanting to sign up for the next events to occur.
Your character is either here, on the way to Tantallon, or deciding to settle down here for various reasons. When going to Tantallon, only way in from Relgard is a Ferry costing 40 silver and taking three hours so a character just cannot hop back and forth instantly however they are allowed to move inbetween channels within reason.
Channel Comparision
Below is a comparision of all of our channels (#TwistedBlade_Inn, #Arennonmist_Inn and #Relgard_Arena which can help you decide where to RP at. If you don't want to miss out on any of the role-playing in Imperia, make up another character to fit another channel. Also remember your choice of channel is not necessarily permanent.
Each channel is listed, then described based on the terms of Channel Purpose, OOC Restrictions, OOC Management, Ops, Helpers, Location, Ruling Government, Town Population, Current Ruler, Race Restrictions, Technology Level, IC Management, Typical Atmosphere, Danger Level, Job Oppertunities, Basic Character Power Level, Why you should come here, why you should not come here, Movement Restrictions on going from this channel to (Other channel Name), Travel Time and Distance from this channel to (Other Channel Name) and Closing Notes.
| #TwistedBlade_Inn | |
| Channel "Purpose" | TBI was not really made with a purpose as it has been our oldest channel in the group, started back in 1996. It is where a great deal of RP occurs, however the RP is of high plot, danger and action content. TBI is dangerous, fast-paced and action packed. A new character could wind up dead here on their first day. |
| OOC Restrictions | None, but playing here you accept the fact that your character could very easily die at any given moment. |
| OOC Management | N/A |
| Ops | N/A |
| Helpers | N/A |
| Location | Tantallon |
| Ruling Government | Axius Kingdom |
| Town Population | 100,000-150,000 |
| Current Ruler | The Axius Royal Council |
| Race Restrictions | None. All Approved Characters Allowed. Races of levels 1-4 on the Bestiary Scale. Dragons not bearing the proper paperwork from Axius are attacked on sight. |
| Technology Level | Medium magical technology presence, airships dock at local station and a few guards possess magi-tech weaponry. |
| IC Management | Zarak Scythe |
| Typical Atmosphere | TBI is located in what is considered the "slums" of the city of Tantallon. The city is beleaguered and a hotly contested spot and is a target of hostile forces such as Aelvius, the Dorandus Cult and the Shadow Knight Empire. This is truly a city under siege. Anyone looking to make a name or reputation for themselves come here, and the City Guard is having a hard time maintaining order. |
| Danger Level | High. The streets and countryside are unsafe at night as Illithids, Rogues, Vampires and other beast roam the dark alleyways and sewers. Monsters have been known to attack either for political or personal reasons, and the city is also a target of hostile nations and attempted coups. Your character's safety is *NOT* guaranteed and if they find themselves facing a powerful beast such as a Beholder, then they have a fair chance of winding up dead. |
| Job opportunities | High but competitive. Each day a merchant's fair occurs, called the Trade Fair, in the town square. Here merchants compete for business, just as other stores and craftsman also compete for business and customers. Usually any trade skill there is, you have a surplus of as Tantallon has a lot of road, air and sea traffic coming in and out. Goods here are either normally priced or sometimes %10 less than normal if there is an overly abundant supply. However theft and crime is high, and the chances of being robbed while walking in the city streets at night are %60. Due to the very high presence of Rhemult's Rogues, the strain on the Tantallon City Guard, and a minor amount of corruption within the Tantallon City Guard, any such thieve is bound to escape and not be captured. |
| Basic Character "Power" Level | Medium to High. Some powerful characters walk around, and the local guard is ill equipped to really stop them. Every now and then disasters occur and usually the cost of life is very high, such as an Elemental Mage setting houses on fire, a Necromancer pillaging the local graveyard or a Shadow Knight Terrorist planting an explosive into a packed Tantallon Hospital. Characters have no magic restrictions on them, however if they step out of line the Tantallon Guard is bound to respond with equal force. Good and Evil both have power here. |
| Why your character would come here | The big city, a place of opportunity, excitement, danger and a chance to prove yourself. You heard the legends of grand heroes and villains being made here, climatic battles, and large sums of money to be made on dangerous tasks and missions. You want to make it here and make a name for yourself. That is however, if you survive. You don't want to be in some sleepy town. You would rather be fighting it out with whatever beast is coming to come up next, meet dangerous and exotic races and have a chance to be among legends or become a legend just like Kal Olden, Sidian Silverhawke and Baiganx Windfire. |
| Why you should role play here | Plots are always running here and high danger equals high reward. Evil is always around the corner, dark forces gather on the horizon and you want to be at the very forefront of this grand battle. TBI is high action, excitement and adventure and Plots are always running ALL the time and some of truly epic caliber. |
| Why you should not role play here | Make one boneheaded move and you die. Underestimate a foe, go wandering out into dangerous parts or fall for an ambush but you shall die. This high chance of death, where a character's life can end in a heartbeat may not appeal to you. Also it's hard to have a conversation when the bar is on fire and Shadow Knight airships are blasting at the city from above. |
| Movement Restrictions on going from this channel to Arennonmist Inn? | High. You can reach Relgard (#Arennonmist_Inn) by either portal, flight or sea however the sea is the most advised route. Any characters portaling or teleporting in will be intercepted by the Robed Sentinels, any odd creatures flying in will be issued a fine by the Protectorate. Also your high powered character may not even CARE to go to some small town. By sea, you can reach Relgard via a ferry that costs around 40 silver and can reach the town in three hours. |
| Movement Restrictions on going from this channel to Relgard Arena? | See Above |
| Travel time & distance from TwistedBlade Inn to Arennonmist Inn? | A ferry by sea is the only route, taking 4-5 hours to cross 43 miles of ocean from Mennald Island to the coast of Tantallon. The ferry costs 43 silver. |
| Travel time & distance from TwistedBlade Inn to Relgard Arena? | See above. |

| Channel "Purpose" | AMI was made with a purpose to be a more social and peaceful alternative to TBI and appeal to the low power characters as well as players who don't want to endanger their characters in TBI. AMI is more a first step and safe channel, also featuring the Tournaments of Relgard. New people are suggested to begin at AMI to learn the ropes of RP and Imperia RP. While TBI has action, AMI is meant for more social RP and Plots. |
| OOC Restrictions | None. This channel is entirely safe. |
| OOC Management | N/A |
| Ops | N/A |
| Helpers | N/A |
| Location | Relgard |
| Ruling Government | Mennald Kingdom |
| Town Population | 3,000-5,000 |
| Current Ruler | Baron Gandrews Yontither under the authority of King Githeran Suhlmar residing in Mennald City |
| Race Restrictions | Low Power Characters, races of levels 1-2 unless special permission given. No magically strong characters. Races of levels 1-2 on the Bestiary Scale. Anything unusual looking is treated with fear and dragons are a cause of great alarm. |
| Technology Level | Medieval level. No magical technology presence, no airships enter the area nor allowed entry by royal mandate unless situation is dire. Guards possess normal weaponry (Pikes, Daggers, Swords) |
| IC Management | Richtous Bale |
| Typical Atmosphere | AMI is located in Relgard Keep, near the Arena in the south edge of the town of Relgard. The town is relaxed, if not rather quaint and simple. People come here to escape the horrors of war and the bigger cities and to settle down. No one of any name really comes here, as this town is a mere speck on the map. |
| Danger Level | Low. The Robed Sentinels maintain the peace by policing magic and the town benefits from it's overall obscurity. Any threats here are minimal and no other nation really covets Mennald Island nor Relgard. Mennald has, in it's entire history, never been attacked. |
| Job opportunities | Medium. While Relgard does not have the booming trade that Tantallon has, it is a way station for ships passing from the south and heading north for either Vulzanix, Tantallon or Dawnist as well as boats heading east to Damocles's port of Norcon or west to Cylion and further inland of Axius. Craftsmen are not overly plentiful, so some goods are more expensive than others. However goods here are usually 10-20% higher than in Tantallon. Crime here is low, with the chances of being robbed while walking in the city streets at night at %20. Due to the high presence of the Robed Sentinels, any such thieve is bound to be captured. |
| Basic Character "Power" Level | Low to Medium. Any unauthorized magic use is automatically responded to by the Robed Sentinels who issue fines if you do not have a magic use license (Purchasable at the Robed Sentinels Guildhall for 5,000 silver) and will attack if the user resists. While this may seem overly strict, Relgard can easily brag that huge disasters do NOT occur here. Characters are advised to be of low magic, or simply not USE their magic as this small town can be overly cautious. |
| Why your character would come here | War, danger, living in fear - Others may desire that but you do not. You see no reason to live in a city that's either always being attacked, people always dieing, monsters always wanting to come and wreck havoc or finding that while you where out shopping your entire house has burned down and your those of your family and friends are all dead. You want peace, relaxation and stability within your life. The horrors of war and the squabbling of national politics do not appeal to you and you are content with yourself - not feeling a suicidal desire to go down in a blaze of glory fighting Illithid only to have your brain turned into a snack and your body a corpse. Also there exists the Relgard Arena and Tournament, a safe sparring ground and spot where a character can earn a legend for themselves as a great warrior or gladiator. |
| Why you should role play here | You want to focus on the more social aspects of role play, not the combative aspects of it. Your character has a deeply complex personality and you want to explore it. Also it's rather nice you can sit down and enjoy a fine drink and a good conversation and not have to worry about dieing within the next few minutes. Also Relgard has the advantage of being the hosting town of the Tournament. |
| Why you should not role play here | You might find it dull and boring, and wish for some great excitement or something. AMI is meant as a safe and more social alternative and that is bound to appeal to the more seasoned and relaxed role player than anything else. |
| Movement Restrictions on going from this channel to TwistedBlade Inn? | None. Sometimes people want to visit Tantallon to take advantage of the great shopping opportunities there or enjoy a brief dive into the danger area. People cannot fly out of Relgard, but can portal out if they have the proper license for it. By sea, you can reach Tantallon via a ferry that costs around 40 silver and can reach the town in three hours. |
| Movement Restrictions on going from this channel to Relgard Arena? | None. |
| Travel time & distance from Arennonmist Inn to TwistedBlade Inn? | A ferry by sea is the only route, taking 4-5 hours to cross 43 miles of ocean from Mennald Island to the coast of Tantallon. The ferry costs 43 silver. |
| Travel time & distance from Arennonmist Inn to Relgard Arena? | The Arena is just a few feet from the Inn. 2-3 minutes. |

| #Relgard_Arena (Because Relgard Arena is just a few feet from Arennonmist Inn, refer to information for Arennonmist Inn for fields not listed.) |
|
| Channel "Purpose" | Relgard Arena is a large Arena just in front of the Arennonmist Inn, and made as a way for characters to spar (After paying the sparring fee). Also Tournaments are held here regularly. |
| OOC Restrictions | Your character must be an AMI-Suitable Character and have frequented the Inn. No TBI->Arena ones unless it's for the Tournament. |
| OOC Management | N/A |
| Ops | N/A |
| Helpers | N/A |
| IC Management | Zarak Scythe & Grak |
| Typical Atmosphere | The Arena is usually hosting sparring warriors, and well guarded to prevent any foul business from occurring. Also refer to this same field under AMI. |
| Why your character would come here | The chance to spar or train, however only works if you are also an AMI-Player. Also refer to this same field under AMI. |
| Why you should role play here | A good and safe place to spar for a cheap fee. Also the Grand Tournament is a famous sporting event. |
| Why you should not role play here | You might not like non-lethal combat, or don't want to meet the AMI Prerequisite. |
